ALL - Dance Dance Revolution Used in UK Schools
Following a very successful trial, all schools in the Luton area of the UK are now offering Dance Dance Revolution exercise classes as part of their physical education curriculum.
The trial concentrated on children who would not take part in regular P.E lessons as a way of tackling the growing obesity problem with young people in the UK.
A huge screen at the front of the gym broadcasts Dance Dance Revolution to the whole class. Each of the pro dance mats (similar to those in arcades) are linked together allowing competitive challenges with all of the children.
Each child will burn approximately 400 calories during the session, improving both strength, stamina and balance.
It is hoped that this new exercise model will be adopted by other schools as a way of getting kids to get back into the habit of exercising again. As we all know, its that first step to getting fit that is the hardest and DDR provided the perfect motivation.
There are other games out there that could be adapted to large scale exercise classes, like the tour-de-france cycling game that could be linked to exercise bikes.
