ALL - EA Apologizes For National Anthem Error In UEFA Game
Electronic Arts has publicly apologized for a blunder in UEFA Euro 2008 which had something to do with cultural sensitivity. The incident involved "The Soldier's Song", which is traditionally sung during United Ireland sporting events, and was rather used as the team's national anthem.
A local Northern Ireland newspaper has reported various reactions from fans who were "surprised" when the said anthem was played to represent the national team in the game. A fan even said, "So Northern Ireland has no identity now I suppose..." in one of those internet football forums.
Shaun White, spokesperson for EA, has released a statement saying, "At EA Sports, we pride ourselves on delivering rich and authentic videogame experiences. We sincerely apologise for this error."
NI Sports Minister Gregory Campbell has accepted the said apology, saying "[a]ny apology on this matter is most welcome. Obviously there's been a lack of knowledge on the maker's part and hopefully it will be changed as soon as possible."
God Save Our Queen is the Northern Ireland official national anthem.
