For the week ending October 7, the Nintendo DS grabs the lead from the PSP in Japan's hardware and software sales charts, that is despite major boost in sales, thanks to the title Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

With 87,535 units sold, DS manage to top the charts as PSP follows closely with 86,895 units sold. In the same week, Nintendo Wii also maintained its lead over competing next-gen consoles with 20,704 in sales. Trailing those already mentioned consoles are Sony's PS3 with 10,446 sales and Microsoft's Xbox 360 with a total sales of 1,547.

Moving over to the games' side, PSP's title Gundam Battle Chronicle by Namco-Bandai skyrockets to the top of the charts with 86,208 total sales. It was quite an impressive debut at the charts as the game was just launched last October 4. Meanwhile, DS game ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat by Mistwalker is also one of the top-selling games with 49,678 copies sold.

Among the other next-gen console games included in the top 10 of the Media Create's charts is Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi by Namco-Bandai and Atari for the Wii.
