ALL - Guitar Hero 3 Vs. Rock Band: Advantage GH3
Two of the hottest rhythm games released are still in for a tight race in monthly sales. Although Harmonix and MTV Games' Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360) managed to outsell Activision's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii) for the holiday season, it wasn't able to cover all aspects for it to be considered having won the sales battle overall.
Sold at US $170, Rock Band would seem to be the better option knowing that the bundle includes, apart from the game, drums, guitar, and microphone. According to the NPD Group, it was apparent after the first few weeks in the market as it sold a total of 364,500 copies.
However, the multi-platform release of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock helped the game dominate for the month of November, with most sales on the PS2, a staggering 1,469,800 copies sold.
And now, Rock Band is raring to expand as well as it will soon be released on the PS2. And as Rock Band won't be seeing a Wii release soon, it looks like Guitar Hero III is still one console up.
The lack of peripheral instruments seem to be affecting the overall sales for Rock Band as well. This is aside from the reported early problems with the game's various instruments when it was initially released. Although Electronic Arts were keen on responding to the faulty instruments, there was just an overwhelming number of customers asking for replacement controllers.
And so, sometime in early 2008, individual peripherals for Rock Band will now be made available. Until then, we have to wait and see if Rock Band will indeed be able to reign supreme.
