ALL - Guitar Hero Franchise Setting Sales Records
According to a data gathered by the NPD Group, Activision has once again broken industry record when its Guitar Hero franchise has generated over US 1 billion in North American retail sales within a 26-month period.
This shouldn't come as a surprise following the success of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, PC) which was a key factor for NPD Group's having named Activision as the number one publisher for 2007.
When the first game off of the Guitar Hero franchise was released in the market back in 2005, it managed to sell more than 14 million copies. Aside from that, Activision also said that over five million songs have been downloaded by users as a DLC.
Activision could not be any happier with the outcome of events. In fact, Activision' s President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Griffith has shared the following thoughts regarding the franchise's success:
“Guitar Hero is one of the biggest brands and one of the most powerful distribution platforms in all of entertainment today. Guitar Hero's popularity with broad audience is a confirmation that video games have become a true mass medium.”
