ALL - Guitar Hero III Boosts Music Sales
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock's (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC) success has not only given publisher Activision a boost in sales, but has also helped artists featured in the rhythm game in terms of album sales. Well, apparently that's not all the good things that Guitar Hero 3 has done as it also helped improved the sales of digital music, particularly those included in the game.
In the report of Ars Technica, bands like The Strokes, Slipknot and Sonic Youth have witnessed a tremendous increase in download sales shortly after Guitar Hero 3 was released in US retail stores.
The Strokes' “Reptilia”, for instance, earned a 127% increase on their song's digital copies, as opposed to the week before the release of the game. Meanwhile, Slipknot's “Before I Forget” shared the same fate, experiencing a 75% and 140% jump in sales during the first and second week of the game's release, respectively.
A source from Ars Technica has revealed that “[as] long as your song ships with the game and you offer the track to be downloaded digitally, you see an increase.”
With the tremendous impact on sales figure, it might be interesting to see which songs will be included in the future Guitar Hero games.
