ALL - Phaneuf makes Cover Of EA's NHL 09
There are several goal scorers such as Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, or Alexender Ovechkin that are likely candidates as cover athlete for this year's edition of EA's long-running hockey sim.
Eventually, Electronic Arts went with Calgary Flames blue-liner Dion Phaneuf to grace the cover of NHL 09. They decided Phaneuf as their final pick because he seems to embody the new defensive focus that the game features. Deviating from the “skill stick” mechanic for puck carriers that were notable in NHL 07 and 08 edition, EA is now redirecting towards defensive skill stick mechanics for the hockey sim's latest offering. The game will also be seeing some changes in terms of body checking.
Although Phaneuf will be the official cover star for NHL 09, EA decided to have a couple of stars to front the game for their home countries. Such as Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson gracing the cover in Sweden, and Alexender Ovechkin (who was also featured on the NHL 07 cover) will be NHL 09's coverboy for Russia.
Start looking out for NHL 09 in September as it is released on the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
