With today's console generation, the PlayStation 2 has managed to keep it up among a great lineup of next-gen consoles. However, with Sony's fiscal 2008 annual report, it reflects a decline in terms of hardware and software sales for the PS2.

As compared to the last fiscal year, Sony saw a .98 million drop in PS2 sales, while on the software side there was also a 39.5 million units drop.

In the same report, Sony said: “However, on the back of worldwide hardware expansion, there are plans for a diversified portfolio of software titles to be released, and, thus, Sony will strive to maintain the scale of this business.”

And while PS2 software was triumphant over some PS3 and PSP software, as much as three times the number of units sold, the PSP was able to hold it strong in terms of hardware sales over either the PS3 or PS2. The PSP garnered a total of 13.89 million units, which saw about four million increase from last year.

When it comes to software, the PSP sold 55.5 million units, which saw a meager .8 million jump from last year. The PS3 software, on the other hand, racked up 57.9 million units which is a great leap from last year's 44.6 million units.

Worldwide hardware unit sales (increase/decrease year-on-year ):
PS2: 13.73 million units (a decrease of 0.98 million units)
PSP: 13.89 million units (an increase of 4.36 million units)
PS3: 9.24 million units (an increase of 5.63 million units)

Worldwide software unit sales (increase/decrease year-on-year ):
PS2: 154.0 million units (a decrease of 39.5 million units)
PSP: 55.5 million units (an increase of 0.8 million units)
PS3: 57.9 million units (an increase of 44.6 million units)
