Research has just been finished showing that some commercial video games can help children learn in school. Ea games and Futurelab have just finished a one year study in the UK showing how commercial video games can be used in the classroom to help children learn. Teachers report that games can help to motivate and help develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. The study consisted of 12 teachers from 4 secondary schools in the UK. Some of the games used in the study include The Sims 2, Knights of Honour, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3.
Teacher Claire Gemmell said ¨I can definatly see the potential of using games in the classroom. It proved to be and important tool in motivating students and engaging their interest. I would like to use games in the future if the technical problems could be addressed.¨ According to an Ipsos MORI survey up to 59% of teachers wish to include video games in their curriculum.
