PS2 - BBFC Denies Manhunt 2 Again
Gamers will recall back in June when the BBFC, the board that gives ratings to video games in the UK, refused to rate Manhunt 2. This essentially banned the game from release in the region. After this refusal and with the rating decisions in other regions Rockstar decided to go back and tone things down a bit and re-submit.
This resulted in the game receiving an M rating from the ESRB in North America- however, the BBFC still finds the game unsuitable for sale in the region and has refused a rating.
"We recognise that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version," offered David Cooke, director of the BBFC.
"The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient.
"There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the 'execution kills', but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature," he said.
It is now up to Take Two, the publisher of Rockstar's games, if they wish to appeal the decision.
