PS2 - BBFC Wants Judicial Review
In response to the successful appeal made by Rockstar on the banning of Manhunt 2, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is applying for a judicial review.
Previously, the Video Appeals Committee has overturned the decision of BBFC to reject Manhunt 2, and now they are looking to appeal the Committee's decision to grant the title a classification.
According to a statement made by BBFC, it “is contesting the VAC judgment because in the Board's view, it is based on an approach to harm which is an incorrect interpretation of the Video Recordings Act. The VAC judgment, if allowed to stand, would have fundamental implications with regard to all the Board's decisions, including those turning upon questions of unacceptable levels of violence.”
Furthermore, the Board has detailed that they will not give Manhunt 2 a classification until the outcome of the judicial review if the VAC's decision is suspended.
