PS2 - Best PlayStation 2 Game Ever Made
God of War II for the PS2 is an action-adventure third person game that has exceeded expectation and critical acclaim. The much praised God Of War I title was voted as a classic masterpiece, by all counts, and yet the sequel has outdone that title and has emerged as probably the best game ever on PS2.
God of War 2 places you within Greek mythology where you play the brutal and bad tempered Kratos, who has just been enthroned as the new god of war (thanks to your efforts in God of War I.) Still not satisfied, Kratos has been leading his Spartan armies through more conquering expeditions which (along with his general disrespectful attitude) has upset Zeus, the King of Olympus, to the point that he banishes Kratos to Hades and strips him of his power.
From Hades you must work your way to the hidden temple of the Sisters of Fate, to begin acquiring the help of Zeus' old enemies the Titans, and exact your revenge. The game is brilliantly paced, putting you in a massive world with awesome atmosphere and believability. To achieve your goal, you'll have to battle some furious mythological characters (practically all those you've heard of), get through some entertaining puzzles, have some pretty brutal big boss fights, and prove (once again) that you're the baddest of the bad in the mythological world.
God of War 2 really does emphasize combat over everything else and gives you more moves, weapons, combos and magic than you would ever have even dreamed of in the first title. When God of War I only offered you one weapon, God of War II gives you several, which are also all upgradeable with attack power and special moves and abilities. There is a huge amount of flexibility in combat, on screen and through the control scheme, pitting you through amazingly massive levels that continuously surprise you. Replayability is excellent as well – you can keep your upgrades for the second time around (if you want) giving you a different choice every time as to how you want to defeat your enemies. The bonus features of the game were also so large that they have to provide you an extra disc for it all. These bonus features take you through almost every aspect of the development of this great game.
The graphics and sound of God of War II is truly awe-inspiring. The orchestral soundtrack really helps you to get in to the game, and always feels in perfect sync with whatever you are busy doing- blending nicely with the action. The animations are pretty much flawless, with incredible attention to detail, and a camera that doesn't hinder but improves gameplay significantly – always putting you in the action and able to see all the details. The voice acting is very good, as well as the sound effects that add an incredible amount to the atmosphere of the game. The fantastic lighting and particle effects of the game, along with the textures and backgrounds, add to the interactivity and sheer immensity of the game, and help to make God of War II truly the best looking game ever to grace the Sony Playstation 2.
God of War 2 might not be for everyone (having an M rating for violence) but it is certainly the best action-adventure game on the PS2 and an amazing gaming experience in its own right. Its intensity and fun, huge replayability and unbeaten atmosphere make God of War II- without doubt- the best PS2 game you can get.
