PS2 - Rockstar Concerned Regarding High Court Decision Overturning Appeal Verdict On Manhunt 2
The banning of Manhunt 2 in the UK has seen several months of grueling battle between the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and Rockstar Games. And just last month, Rockstar Games made a successful appeal to the Video Appeals Committtee (VAC).
It was only a sign of things to come though as the BBFC ordered a judicial review of the VAC's decision. They brought the case over to the UK High Court which has overturned the VAC's appeal of the ban, and was taken back to the VAC.
As was cited in the hearing, there was a confusion regarding the term “harm” in legal terms, which has resulted in an “error of law.” Rockstar expressed its opinion about the High Court's decision, saying:
“We believe the VAC decision was correct and do not understand the court's decision to expend further public resources to censor a game that contains content well within the bounds established by the BBFC's 18-plus ratings certification.”
It's been months since the controversy of the ban for Manhunt 2 (PS2, PSP, Wii), and it looks like we'd have to wait for several more months to see a resolution.
