PS2 - Speed Racer Game Speeding Its Way To PS2
Warner Brothers Interactive has just announced that along with the upcoming 2008 film Speed Racer, they will also be releasing a video game tie-in. The film, which was directed by Wachowski brothers, boasts off a cast which includes Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon, and John Goodman.
The game will be developed by Sidhe Interactive, a New Zealand based group, known for their work on the racing/puzzle game Gripshift. Players to this game will be getting behind the wheel of some signature vehicles like the Mach 5, suited for high-speed racing. The developers for both the game and film will be working together to make it as accurate as possible.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice-President for Development and Production, Samantha Ryan has revealed, “Speed Racer is an exceptionally creative property and teamed with the Wachowski brothers’ vision it makes for action-packed racing gameplay.” She further adds, “The game will capture the intensity of the racing in the film to give gamers and movie fans a chance to take the wheel after [experiencing] the film.”
Film producer, Joel Silver, has also expressed his opinion regarding this new venture: “We are very excited about this natural extension from the Speed Racer film to the videogame. Larry and Andy are videogame fans themselves, so they believe that an interactive game is a key component to the entire Speed Racer experience.”
As soon as the film comes out on May 8, 2008, Wii and DS will be getting the game version of Speed Racer. Meanwhile, the PS2 version will be available along with the release of the film's DVD.
