PS2 - Take Two Disappointed In BBFC
Take-Two Interactive has expressed its disappointment with BBFC in their efforts of appealing for a judicial review on VAC's (Video Appeals Committee) decision on Manhunt 2.
Yesterday, BBFC has released the following statement: “"The BBFC is applying for a judicial review of the decision by the Video Appeals Committee to overturn the Board's rejection of the video game Manhunt 2. The Board's challenge also seeks suspension of the Committee's decision that the game should be classified.
"The BBFC is contesting the VAC judgement because in the Board's view, it is based on an approach to harm which is an incorrect interpretation of the Video Recordings Act."
If indeed the VAC's decision will be suspended, then Manhunt 2 will remain unclassified until the result of the judicial review comes out.
Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two Interactive's chairman, has released a counter-statement saying, “We are disappointed that the BBFC has decided to appeal its own Video Appeals Committee's judgment in favor of an 18-plus certificate fr Manhunt 2.”
Furthermore, he reveals that “[w]e believe the VAC decision was correct and do not understand the BBFC's decision to expend further public resources to censor a game that contains content well within the bounds established by the BBFC's 18-plus ratings certification."
With VAC's decision favoring Manhunt 2, it could have seen the game getting an 18-rating in the UK.
