PS3 - 2008 Titles To Watch

The year 2007 was tough for Sony and PS3, with majority of the time seeing the said console beaten by some other consoles in the software and platform race.

But it's not all bad news for Sony's PS3 this year as it finally outsold the Wii in November and the launching of the 40GB model have shown a significant increase in sales for the said console.

Word has been out that 2008 might be the best time for the PS3 to show off. Aside from the launching of the PlayStation Home, there's also some major titles coming up this year that will hopefully show the PS3 to be a console to be reckoned with.

Here is a list of the few games coming out for the PS3 that fans should be looking out for:

Killzone 2
The original Killzone FPS' failure to live up to the hype hasn't reduced the anticipation that fans have for its sequel and this new title will be one of Sony's first-party releases for the next year.

It's not hard to tell why fans can't help their anticipation as this game is filled with all the cinematic flair, with an exciting addition of the first-person cover system. The realistic combination of animation and physics makes this one exciting, blood-splattering action title.

Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid 4 is probably one of the most-anticipated exclusive title for this year. With the intuitive, yet deep, controls, Snake's new adventure promises to be one of PS3's best-looking. Plus, with the Metal Gear Online bundle, it will prove to be one exciting gameplay!

Grand Theft Auto IV
Although not a PS3 exclusive, it's interesting to note that with GTA IV's delay to 2008, this makes PS3 the only console to have both GTA IV and MGS 4, among other great names.

Resident Evil 5
Because the 4th installment of Capcom's Resident Evil was one of the best video games ever made, expectations are high for the 5th offering off the popular series. Information with regards to the game is scanty for now but we know for sure that lead character Chris Redfield is back to fight more zombies this time around. The game will still offer a top-notch level of action as influenced by Ridley Scott's war epic, Black Hawk Down.

Unreal Tournament III
Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 3 promises to have plenty of multiplayer slaughter that will have bodies flying all over the place. The games has been released in North America, while European fans will have to wait until 2008 to experience the same kind of action.

Haze
It was such a long wait but Haze is finally coming in 2008. A first-person shooter developed by Free Radical, the game promises to be more exciting with its four-player co-op feature. Set in a time where the government has outsourced military operations to private multinational corporations, you will be playing Shane Carpenter who has access to high-tech vehicles, kick-ass weapons, as well as performance enhancing bio-medical support. Now, don't tell me that ain't something to look forward to!

Gran Turismo 5/Prologue
As Gran Turismo 5 ships out in 2008, we can expect that this will be the start of PlayStation's flagship racing sims, especially on the PS3. Considered as the most upper class of racing game ever, Gran Turismo 5 indeed looked stunning. But more importantly, it's not just all about the graphics and car models that stun, almost every aspect of the game is well-polished.

Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is a project of the same people behind the brilliant Oblivion series. Originally a PC RPG, Fallout 3 on the PS3 enables players to roam freely in a post-apocalyptic world teeming with mutants and torn structures.

Despite the fact that its RPG, you can still expect to be treated to a full blown action with a combat system that allows you to target a specific body part of an enemy. If you're looking for gory and bloody action, then this might suit your taste.

Littlebigplanet
Playing as a small teddy bear-like creature in the beginning of the game, you must create in-game objects out of wood and cloth by using your little avatar. But when you have the luxury of time, you should be able to construct entire levels that you will be able to run through.

You can customize each avatar, while the levels you've created can be published online through YouTube-like system so that users can play, or leave a comment. Calling this game great is an understatement: you have lots of reason to be excited!

Final Fantasy XIII
Square Enix's Final Fantasy RPG is such a big game, therefore they are going all out with Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3. According to its developers, this game is “a tale of souls from a futuristic civilization illuminated by the Light of the Crystal”.

Taking advantage of the PlayStation 3's advanced hardware system, this should promise to be hours and hours of exciting gameplay.
