PS3 - Amazon.com 40 GB Pre-Orders Sold Out

Last Tuesday, the new 40GB Playstation 3 by Sony Corporation managed to be a sell out with advanced orders at online retail store Amazon.

The new 40GB model, which will be officially released in the market at $399, includes a Blu-ray disc drive, built-in WiFi, a wireless controller, and a copy of SpiderMan 3 on Blu-Ray disc.

Following the official announcement for the release of the new 40GB model, it was only over the weekend that Amazon began offering the product. Although it included some of the peripherals mentioned above, this one lacks backwards compatibility as opposed to those available in the 20GB, 60 GB, as well as the limited compatibility in the 80GB model.

The announcement made by Sony regarding the new 40GB SKU was made shortly after the announcements made for the $100 to $499 price cut on the 80GB. In July, they have also released the 60GB SKU, which will be priced $499 although it is available only until supply lasts.

This should help improve sales for the said console as for a long time it has been outdone by Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii in the console sales charts.

During this week, Sony has released two titles: Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Eye of Judgment. In this US, the PS3 has managed to sell a total of 1.85 million units to date.
