PS3 - Assassin's Creed Lives Up To Next Gen Status - Jade Raymond
In a recent interview with BBC, Ubisoft Montreal producer talked about the development of the 'next-gen' game Assassin's Creed, which took quite a long time make and had fans in full anticipation for the game.
In the interview, Raymond revealed that in order for Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) to be considered a 'next-gen' game, it must have increased standards in terms of overall gameplay and not just in graphics and looking good. This game, Raymond says, takes advantage of the power of today's next-gen consoles to take the gameplay a notch higher.
Playing in a much larger environment, players to the game will be able to make use of all items within the game as they can either be “grabbed, climbed on [or] jumped from.” The challenge lies in the developers to make every object in the game interactive.
Another thing that developers worked on for this game are the characters themselves. They [developers] wanted to make each character, and even the faceless populace, realistic and lifelike. They made each character and members of the populace sort of an individual.
When asked if Assassin's Creed will herald the coming of next-gen games, Raymond said, “I think we are at where we were with film when we made the transition from silent films that were telling a story with sound and dialogue.”
Raymond further adds, “We are just at the point of discovering what we can do with interactivity and what's an interactive story where you are creating a story for players, but it really has to become the player's story.”
