PS3 - Backward Compatible PS3s Selling For Bifg Prices In Japan
Just how much is backwards compatibility for your PS3 worth to you? If you have previously bought a model that was backwards compatible, then you'd be having no problem. However, those gamers who are still eyeing the console, then you might want to contemplate more on this.
If you were given the chance to purchase the old backwards compatible models, would you be willing to pay for it at double the price? This is the same scenario facing Japanese gamers as Amazon Japan and various Japanese shops are offering backwards compatible PS3s at prices double the current model's.
The 40GB model, which isn't backwards compatible, is currently priced at 37, 581 yen (or US 363) in Amazon Japan. Meanwhile, the old 20GB (for 63,800 yen or US 616) and 60GB (40,100 yen or US 388) models are offered at almost twice that.
Meanwhile, a few shops are also offering second hand consoles at double their original prices, ranging from 15,000 yen (US 145) to 40,100 yen (US 388) for the 20GB model.
Perhaps, this might hint Sony to bring back backwards compatibility if gamers still find them worth it.
