PS3 - EA, MTV Together Again On Rock Band 2

In the recent announcement of Rock Band 2, there seems to be an underlining concept of a reunion tour. In the latest installment of the said rhythm game, MTV Games and Harmonix teams up yet again with EA to bring together various toy instruments to rock the whole nation.

However, if last year's installment saw the game appear on various shelves, Rock Band 2 will not be the same. The game is set to debut on the Xbox 360 this September, while another "exclusive launch window" will be scheduled for North America as it arrives to yet unspecified platforms by the end of this year.

As Rock Band's rival, Activision's Guitar Hero, takes on a full four-piece band concept, Rock Band 2 is looking to upgrade the game with its own unique concept. Among those revealed during the game's announcement was that this new installment will be compatible with the first Rock Band downloadable content, meaning gamers who previously owned Rock Band DLC would no longer have to purchase new ones to play in this new system. This gives it an edge over recent news about previous Guitar Hero content's incompatibility with the new system - fans already have their own Rock Band 2 library to choose from. Because there are over 200 songs available in the current Rock Band music store (which was able to reach about 15 million paid downloads since it launched in November), you will never run out of choices.

Aside from that, Harmonix also brings a "new and improved" drum and guitar controllers to suit the new design and features of the game. Still, the good news is that all these new controllers are "fully compatible with original Rock Band instruments." Included in the game's tracklist are master recordings, as well as new online modes that emphasizes Rock Band's social community aspects.

To get more details about Rock Band 2, make sure to tune in at this year's E3 Media & Business Summit.
