PS3 - FIFA 2008 Demo - First Impressions
For all of you who still have not downloaded the free PS3 demo of Fifa 2008, here are a few of my first impressions of the revised gameplay of this years update.
Playing this on a 32inch HDTV revealed the immediate benefit of the higher definition within FIFA 08. The whole pitch seems massive now, any those tiny players, suddenly seem bigger. You can now clearly see the details on the shirt designs.
But this is far more than a cosmetic improvement, this extra sharpness and size makes tackling other players far more exact than on the PS2.
There were a few times when the game stuttered in normal play, which hopefully can be put down to this not being the finished game. More worrying was the choppy graphics when the camera zooms in on the action.
Actually, even the cut scenes were very jerky, sound often lagged behind the action on the pitch and the crowd all looked like penguins who move at the same time.
Most annoying were the textures used for the grass... cheap carpet is the best likeness I can come up with. Even the cut scenes look like they are standing on patterned concrete.
Overall though, this feel far more like real football (Soccer for our US friends), there is a nice pace to the game and players can bump into each other, fall over each other and tackle in a more realistic way.
I am interested to hear the views of other gamers who have tried the demo... Whatcha Think ?
