PS3 - Firmware v 2.00 Coming Our Way!
Rumors have flown for months regarding version 2.0 coming to the PS3, only for the supposed release date to pass with no results. Now, however, we have official word from Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations version 2.0 will becoming in the next few days!
Among the highlights of the new firmware will be a new feature called the Information Board. This will be found in the Network menu and appear as an orange icon with the controller icons based in the low-left corner. Once this is activated Sony will be able to send up-to-date information regarding PlayStation gaming. This will include game news, hardware, PlayStation Store updates, amongst other items of interest. A click on the headline will bring you to the full story.
Remote Play has been enhanced a bit with the inclusion of Remote Start. Using your PSP locally or via an internet hot spot, you will now be able to turn on your PS3 from stand by mode from anywhere.Now you won't have to leave your system fully on to be able to access any files via your PSP. Once finished you can easily put your PS3 back into stand by mode over the PSP.
XMB customization is also coming in the update as the use of themes will be added with the update. These will change the look and sound of just about everything from icons to backgrounds and sounds using downloaded themes available from the PlayStation Store or from Sony's official PlayStation web site. If you don't like the preconfigured choices the ability will be there to make your own custom themes.
Music and photo viewing has been enhanced, too- those with photos or MP3 files on their system will be able to make custom playlists for all their photos and music.

Edit: The Firmware version 2.0 is nowlive and available for download via your Online Connected PS3s.

The addition of the themes for the XMB will be a good update.
Sony really are starting to get it even er righter (ok that's not a word granted but you know what I mean).
Let's hope version 2 adds even more updates as well.
The information board thing sounds cool to me, if they keep it updated enough.

EDIT: Just noticed that on Three Speech they say: "available for download 8 November..." So I guess you'll be downloading it before you get your free trailers in the store tomorrow ;) Fun Fun. Hopefully it doesn't take as long to download as other firmware updates have.
It is truly amazing, i love the new update, the themes are excellent and you can still customise set themes. The new PSN Icon is very cool and makes for a very cool looking xmb, and the playlist and the information boards........WOW !!!!!!!!
