PS3 - Folding at Home Breaks All Records

In connection with Stanford University's Folding@Home project, SCEA's Senior Development Manager for Research and Development Noam Rimon wrote an article at the official Playstation Blog regarding another milestone for the PS3 console.

It was only last week when the entire project was able to accomplish more than a quadrillion floating point operations per second, thus breaking the so-called Petaflop barrier.

And within just a week, Rimon reveals that the influx of gamers supporting the project's cause has increased dramatically within just a week. The overall computation power of the PS3 consoles has crossed the Petaflop line. From a total of 41,145 participants, the output of all the participating Playstation 3 consoles in the project have reached 1,020 TFLOPS.

Noam Rimon asks, “How does it feel to be part of the most powerful distributed computer network in the world?” Indeed, it is another achievement not just for the manufacturers of the console, but for the PS3 owners themselves.
