PS3 - Forced Bundles, High Prices Creating PS3 Glut Online
According to tracking firm Notifyware the combination of the high price of the PlayStation 3 and the practice of bundling the console with games is creating a glut of available systems online.
They feel this has put consumers off and has slowed down the fervor for the system that was going at launch. Some of these bundles are as much as twice the cost of the system alone.
¨I think we´re already at the point where people won´t pay a premium for the console or be forced into buying bundles,¨ said Ian Drake, president of NotifyWire.
Drake believes interest is waning for the console, and compared the speed in which new Xbox 360 stock sold out before Christmas 12 months ago.
¨Last year we tracked several one thousand dollar Xbox 360 bundles which would sell out in less than two minutes after becoming available.¨
One retailer had a USD$1000 bundle available for over 12 hours. It was noted that this sort of thing did not happen with the XBox 360 until well after Christmas.
Drake also said people are becoming increasingly tired of being gouged on auction sites such as eBay on the supposed ¨hot items¨.
NotifyWire is a service that alerts subscribers to availability of items at online retailers and eventually sites such as eBay and Craigslist.
