PS3 - Guitar Hero 3 Brings In $115 Million At Launch
Since its official launch on October 28, Guitar Hero III has once again produced for publisher Activision after raking in $115 million in North America alone.
Robert Kotick, Activision Chairman and CEO, revealed this in his recent quarterly earnings report.
Guitar Hero III was the largest amount of units shipped by Activision in the publisher's history. “Within the first seven days, consumer sell through was more than $100 million in North America alone –our largest product launch ever.”
Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 during its worldwide launch sold $300 million in its first week, but Guitar Hero 3 managed to sell as much in its first week, besides the fact that it was released only in North America, since it won't be released in Europe and Australia until later this month.
Activision also continues to gain more earnings as Guitar Hero II continues to sell on various platforms, and they expect Guitar Hero III to be just as strong in the market.
Kotick adds, “Our third-quarter slate is expected to deliver our strongest quarterly results to date, with forecasted net revenues in exces of $1 billion.”
Many gamers were skeptical about Guitar Hero 3's performance, considering that it is facing great challenge from EA's own music game, Rock Band. But it looks like Guitar Hero 3 is looking on for more success in the near future.
