PS3 - Guitar Hero 5 To Allow Imports From World Tour, Smash Hits
Guitar Hero is Rock Band's closest competitor in the field of rhythm games; hence, the developers for each games have tried to outdo each other when it comes to the features and offerings for fans. If you could remember, Rock Band enables on-disc track imports from the first game up to the sequel. Hence, Activision took the hint and added the same forward compatibility feature for Guitar Hero 5.
This time out, about 152 downloadable tracks from both World Tour and Smash Hits are cleared for Guitar Hero 5. Aside from that, those tracks are upgradeable as well such that it would fit the new features of GH 5. For this service though, Activision will charge an importation fee but they failed to announce specifically how much it will cost fans.
Activision's Tim Riley has revealed:
“It's something we've wanted to do for a while now. They are separate licenses, so we need to go back and re-license previous content. So, songs from World Tour, songs from the download space, songs from Smash Hits that will technically work in Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero had to be renegotiated...We didn't want to do it for a couple songs. We wanted to do it for a couple hundred songs. So we have a lot cleared and we're in the process of clearing a lot more.”
