PS3 - Home Development Unhindered By Harrison's Departure: Sony
Shortly following the news that Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, will be stepping out of position there were a lot of talk regarding the impact it might have on the beta PlayStation Home virtual world/service.
Aside from being one of the strongest proponents of online experiences for Sony, he also spearheaded the Home initiative, which traced its life back on the PS2. Although Harrison will no longer be a part of the company, Sony insists that it will continue to drive the vision for Home forward.
A spokesperson from Sony Computer Entertainment America said, “[It's] business as usual for Home. The projects that Phil has been working on including Home are still on track and are still sticking to their current schedules.” The said spokesperson further reveals that “[e]ach title and project is supported by a wide variety of people behind the scenes to ensure the highest quality and execution.”
Although Home currently has no official launch date just yet, it was originally expected to launch last fall. Then, it was moved to Spring 2008. Meanwhile, SCE CEO Kaz Hirai however said in a statement last November that he was “not satisfied” with the current version of Home.
