PS3 - Karraker Clears Air About PS3 Rumors

David Karraker, senior communications director of SCEA, recently had an interview with gaming news blog Joystiq. A couple of the topics included the nonstop rumors regarding the backward compatibility and the supposed discontinuing of 20 GB units in North America.

First, the ¨Sony is discontinuing the 20 GB system¨ bit that just won´t die. Karraker says ¨the 20GB model of PS3 is available in North America, along with the 60GB model. While we make it available to retailers, they are the ones who ultimately place the order for what they want to sell, based on consumer demand.¨

The rumors got started when word started going around that retailers were not carrying the 20 GB model in their inventory. For clarification purposes, Karraker added that 80% of PS3 system orders were for the 60 GB model so it´s only natural that there would be fewer 20 GB systems. It in no way means it is being discontinued from retailer product listings or by Sony.

Now, the buzz about the backward compatibility. Until Sony can get their list out of what games will work there is no way of knowing so any list of games you may find out on the interweb claiming certain games won´t work are fake. Sony will be making the official list available March 23, the date of the UK/ Euro launch.
