PS3 - Monster Hunter 3 Says Goodbye PS3, Hello Wii

Katsuhiro Ichii, Capcom's Managing Corporate Officer, has revealed in a Thompson Financial news report that they have decided to bring Monster Hunter 3 to the Nintendo Wii instead of the Sony PS3. The reason for such move is because of huge development costs for the Sony Playstation 3.

“Due to high development of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title,” Ichii was quoted as saying.

Whether Monster Hunter 3 will retain a multiplatform status remains to be seen, but Sony has one title in the series, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which will be released for Sony's handheld gaming console.

This move by Capcom will benefit Nintendo's Wii big-time, as Monster Hunter 3 has a huge fan base (which are mostly teenage players) which it will be bringing along to the console, reveals Enterbrain President Hirokazu Hamamura.

Hamamura also pointed out Capcom's reputation for developing graphics-intensive titles. The Nintendo Wii has been generally thought of as incapable of handling graphics such as those required by Monster Hunter titles. But with the arrival of Monster Hunter 3 in the Wii, this might bring in more developers to work on titles for Nintendo's Wii.
