Sony has given some more information regarding what will be included with the next firmware update, scheduled to arrive on March 22, just before the launch of the PS3 in the UK and Europe.
Details have already been said about Folding@Home but there is more than that. One of the major gripes has been the inability to do other things while downloading on the PS3. This will be fixed, allowing gamers to keep at it while grabbing those new purchases/ demos when they come out. The option will also be available to use a full onscreen keyboard, making things easier for those that don´t like the cel- phone style in use now.
The web browser also gets an upgrade or two. The browser will now detect the video output settings of the PS3 and set font sizes accordingly to make pages easier to read. Also included will be a ¨point and zoom¨ feature, allowing users to zoom in on certain parts of the web page.
The final bit to report on concerns the Remote Play features, which up to now have only been available for users of the 60 GB units as it would only conect over the built- in wifi. With the update owners of the 20 GB system (like myself) will now be able to make use of it as the PSP will be able to connect to the PS3 over an available ¨hot spot¨ such as a wireless router or even over the internet.
It´s hard to say what time on Thursday this will be available as they haven´t had a set time for these things in the past. I´m just hoping the servers can handle the demand this time.
UPDATE- One more item that may be of interest regarding this update. It also includes support for Bluetooth- enabled keyboards and mice.
