PS3 – Metal Gear Online for Christmas?
The Sony Playstation2 release of Metal Gear Online a few years ago came with a retail copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. And now with the much-anticipated release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, fans are excited about the Metal Gear Online pack that will come with every purchase.
The initial plan was to release MGO before MGS 4 and the idea for the online version of the game developed two years ago, details Kojima Productions Assistant Producer Ryan Payton. He also adds that the MGO was also supposed to have a unique storyline.
And since developing each installment of the Metal Gear series would take them about three years, Payton said that they thought of making a separate Metal Gear Online franchise to come out in a year-and-a-half or two years from now.
However, he also foresee a danger with the release of two separate games for US $60, as consumers might think they are being ripped-off. To address this, Kojima Productions have decided to change the pricing a bit so consumers won't have to pay US $120 to purchase both games. This is also the reason why they cannot confirm a release date for the MSG 4 during the recent Tokyo Game Show.
As of now, word on the street is that Metal Gear Online will be out for Christmas and the Metal Gear Solid 4 will be out early 2008.
