PS3 - "No Plans To Support Blu-Ray": Universal
Universal's DVD Strategic Marketing Executive Vice-President Ken Graffeo has revealed in a recent interview that the company has no plans of supporting Blu-Ray.
In the interview, Graffeo said, “We want to be able to market all the great things HD-DVD can offer consumers.” He then adds, “We couldn't do this if we split our resources on two formats...HD-DVD allows us to provide the type of quality and truly next generation experiences we need to get consumers to migrate from DVD.”
He believes that the recent PS3 price cuts will largely affect the format wars. According to Graffeo, the PS3 is first and foremost a gaming machine, and not everyone is aware that the console even has a DVD playback option.
And he notes that the US $199 price tag on standalone HD-DVD players is a major sink for this holiday shopping season. As an ending note, Grafeeo stated that “the PS3 simply hasn't been the gamer changer Sony had hoped it would be.”
