PS3 - North American PlayStation Store Update (September 13/ 07)
It's Thursday and that means time for some new items in the PlayStation Store on the PS3. The last couple of weeks have been very good in regards to new items in the North American stores- this week continues that trend with a slew of demos, new downloadable games, free wallpaper, a bit of game music and a movie trailer.
Downloadable games first off. We have two available to check out this week. First up is a new poker game entitled High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition. This game features just about everything found in the more expensive console versions including online play, customizable characters, a variety of games to choose from and multiple casino layouts. You can even use the EyeToy in the game- best practice your poker face! ;) The game can be had for $9.99 US/ $10.99 CAD.
Next is PixelJunk Racers, developed by PixelJunk. This game is modelled somewhat after the old slot car sets most of us have played with in our younger days.It features full 1080p support, up to 7 players simultaneous offline play, 32 race modes (!), 10 courses and online rankings to see how you fare against others. This one is had for $6.99 US/ $7.49 CAD.
One movie trailer to mention this week- Feel the Noise, starring Omarian as Rob. Rob is a rapper who, after a run in with local thugs, heads to Puerto Rico to find the father he never knew. It's here he discovers Reggaeton, a mix of hip-hop, reggae and latin music.
You may recall I mentioned a music download. Now available for free is one of the music tracks from recently-released Lair entitled "Battle for Asylia". The track is available in two grades, .mp3 and CD Quality.
One of the more popular items is the wallpaper. SEveral new choices are free for the taking this week. One is based on the vegas Strip: Poker Edition and two based on PixelJunk Racers. Finally, we have one based on the upcoming game Folklore.
Five new game trailers have made their way to the store. One is for Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights from THQ. next is from lair entitled "Mastering the Beast", giving a behind the scenes look at how to best control your dragon steed with the SixAxis. We also have a trailer for the upcoming PSN downloadable game Everyday Shooter, a shooting game along the same vein as Geometry Wars on the 360 only not as heavy on the rules. Next is a Warhawk release trailer featuring some brand new footage from the online-only multiplayer shooter. Finally, a trailer that many fighting game genre fans have been waiting for- Soul Calibur 4. One of the highlights of this game is full online play, a first for the series.
Finally, the demos- there are a lot of them! Players have their choice of checking out Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, NHL 08, FIFA 08 (all from Electronic Arts), Tony Hawk's Proving Ground and a demo for PixelJunk Racers.
With additions as big as this they are going to be spoiling us- here's hoping they can keep it up!

What? They get Tony Hawk AS WELL?
Oh come on, that is sooo unfair
How come they get an extra demo than us? Well extra two if you include the demo of that PixelJunk Racers that is already out for them.
Wish SCEE would sort themselves out so we get the same stuff as them, or at least stuff they don't.
Come on Jay, Euro gamers got 3 game demo's this week, give Sony a break !
Yes, and very good demos they were, but how did we miss out on the Tony Hawks demo? Surely, you'd think so at least, that if a demo is available of a game then it should be given out to all territories regardless of when that game is due out in each territory.
Besides, they being demos of PS3 games, then the games should be simultaneously released and if that is true then the seperate release dates of demos should be a simultaneous release in all territories where the game will be available.
That's all I'm saying. Yeah, they're trying and whatnot, but how hard is it to put a demo of a game on all the servers for the territories that are getting that game? Or are we to take this as a possibility that Europe will NOT be getting the new Tony Hawks game?
I'll leave you all to ponder on that possibility.
