PS3 - PS3 the power of a black hole?

So, PS3...
The console with the Cell processor, capable of helping to create a better understanding of Proteins, and a way to possibly help create cures for all sorts of degenerative diseases.

Oh, and it plays games of course...

However, did you actually think it could create a partial Black Hole?
You know what they are, right? Those anomalies in deep space, created from when a Star goes supernova, thus expanding to a great size until the point where it collapses in on itself thus resulting in the said anomaly.

(At least I THINK that's how a Black Hole is created. I think I either missed that class at school or perhaps fell asleep).

Anyway, back to the PS3 and it being about an eighth of a Black Hole.

Apparently, it seems a certain Dr. Gaurav Khanna at the University of Massachusetts has more or less thrown out a supercomputer and swapped it for a PS3...well, ok then, 8 PS3s.

The good people at Sony, have granted this astrophysicist 8 of their super consoles, for free may I add, to help with his research into theoretical gravity waves.
These waves are a, as yet unproven, theory that are the result of a supermassive Black Hole consuming an actual Star.
Dr. Khanna is using these consoles combined processing power to try to find out whether these waves could be strong enough to be obervable some day.

In regards to swapping his $5000 supercomputer for these 8 consoles, the good doctor had this to say, "basically, it's almost like a replacement. I don't have to use that supercomputer anymore, which is a good thing."

So, what next? Perhaps scientists will soon come up with the idea of using 20, maybe 30 for a bit of leeway, PS3 consoles to help recreate the exact point that the Big Bang occurred and to create a moving three dimensional representation of the forming of the entire Galaxy from that point until now.

Who knows? But with the power of the PS3, is really does seem that this truly IS Living!
