PS3 - Replace The SixAxis Battery Pack Yourself

Less than a month ago a Sony rep said they would provide a service for replacing the controllers when the rechargeable battery no longer functioned properly. Now, it looks like that has changed a bit- it looks like they will want us to remove the batery ourselves and send that back.

It still hasn´t been clarified as to the full details of the policy. Meantime Sony wants to show everyone how simple it is to take the battery out. Just unscrew the 5 screws on the back of the controller, pull back the casing and disconnect the battery.

Sony has said these batteries should last for a few years so this shouldn´t have to be done too often (unless things have changed there too).
