PS3 - Rock Band Earns Harmonix Big Bonus
After seeing tremendous success for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, Rock Band is definitely making overnight rockstars out of the folks there at Harmonix.
Oh well, all their efforts won't go unnoticed as Harmonix may be in for yet another killing in the future- the developers have got themselves an extra US 208.7 million!
If you're wondering where all this money came from, you should remember that MTV Games struck a deal that lets them snap up Harmonix for US $175 million. Also, there was a little stipulation in the buy-out- if Harmonix agreed to be acquired by MTV Games, they will be getting a financial incentive. According to this stipulation:
“In addition, to the extent financial results exceed specific contractual targets against a defined gross profit metric through 2008, former Harmonix shareholders will be eligible for incremental earn-out payments with respect to the years ended December 31, 2007 and December 31, 2008.”
Judging on the overall success of Rock Band, it looks like Harmonix is bagging home quite a lot of goodies! This should be enough motivation to get going with another great sequel. Here's hoping!
