PS3 - San Francisco Launch Party Report
A total of 700 people were lined up outside the Metreon in San Francisco for their chance to get a PlayStation 3. Things were actually quite docile with security keeping an eye out an an extensive crowd-management system in place. On hand were 20 Sony employees and spokesmodels along with 10 officers from the San Fran Police Dept.
A full lane was blocked off to allow trucks to make deliveries of equipment. Sony also comissioned 2 mobile kitchens to hand out free mexican food to those in line. As one would expect, this led to a bathrom-pass system that was much stricter than anything seen in a school. People had to sign a form and were given a black pass card.
People waiting outside the metreon could leave the line knowing they wouldn´t lose their spot for the system- this was thanks to the handing out of red wristbands which guaranteed that person got a system. they weren´t handed out in a specific order, however, so some near the front of the line wound up with a higher number.
Overall things went much smoother here than they did in New York. Those that missed out on getting a system were dispersed with no incedents taking place.
