PS3 - Sony Confirms Movie Download Service On The Way
Word from Sony Computer Entertainment Japan confirmed today the PlayStation 3 is getting a movie download service and is set to launch shortly.
According to Kaz Hirai, this service will be live this summer in the US with Japan and Europe getting a similar service later. No word has been given on a date for those regions as of yet.
This service is meant to be direct competition to Microsoft's service on the XBox 360, which currently showcases movie/ tv content from companies like MTV, Warner Bros., National Geographic and Paramount.
The company said that the PlayStation 3 will be the first Sony product to benefit from video services, with plans to expand video to other products by 2010.
Those of you with internet-connected Sony Bravia televisions will have an extra bonus this November. Sony plans to give those people the new Will Smith movie Hancock (out in theaters next week) before it hits stores on DVD.
