PS3 - Sony, Namco Bandai Form New Group
Sony and Namco Bandai have joined forces and formed a new group to make games for the PlayStation 3 in hopes of taking some market share from the competition.
This new venture will be named Cellius Inc. and begin operation on March 6. Namco Bandai will hold 51 percent of the venture with Sony owning the other 49 percent. This may help Sony recoup some of the money (USD $1.65 billion) they invested in the development of the Cell processor alongside Toshiba and IBM. Ken Kutaragi, known as the ¨father of the PlayStation¨ will be a director part-time with the company.
The company will use the Cell chip to create games for the PlayStation 3 as well as content for mobile devices and personal computers.
Namco´s Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam games were number 1 and 2, respectively, in PlayStation 3 game sales in Japan. Sony´s Resistance: Fall Of Man came in third.
