PS3 - Sony UK's Maguire Comments On Price Cuts
The complaint regarding Sony's PlayStation 3's hefty price has remained to be the consumers' main gripe.
However, Sony Computer Entertainment UK's Managing Director, Ray Maguire, might bear the news that UK gamers have been waiting for in such a long time: there will be a massive price cut on the PS3 units in the UK this Wednesday.
Not only that, Maguire has also detailed that the price-slashed PS3 units will be available in two variations: a 40GB version with some bits taken out for 299 GBP (approximately US $611), and the 60GB version which includes two games for 349 GBP (approximately US $713).
As for the 40GB unit, it will have a brand new SKU taken from the 60GB version but will not have backwards compatibility, a memory stick, and two USB ports will be taken out as well.
Maguire reasoned that the multiple number of games in the market (a total of 65) makes the lack of backwards compatibility a non-issue. Meanwhile, the 60GB price-slashed version will have all the trimmings as the original PS3 had.
The price cut depends on PAL territory initiative, but the 60GB version is available solely in the UK. A US $611 price deal on the a gaming console with a Blu-Ray player is a great deal for the Holiday season.
And although the recently released Halo 3 helped boost the sales of the Xbox 360, Maguire hopes that the price-cut will do it for the PS3. Not only that, he also promises that their own Christmas titles, Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, are two titles that gaming fans should get their hands on as soon as they come out.
