PS3 - This Week On Blu-Ray (July 6-12/ 08)

It's another week yet again and I'm sure you're all looking forward to this week's batch of Blu-ray releases. Last week's release included the classic Batman movie, so now is the time to experience two modern versions of Gotham City's Caped Crusader.

The first Batman movie we'll be discussing features Christian Bale on his first time to take on the Batman role in Batman Begins. The film goes back to the origins of the Dark Knight and takes you through the events that has led to the making of Batman. This will be your ultimate opportunity to relive the experience of how Batman's legacy begun.

You can also get the special edition gift set of Batman Begins which includes a 32-page concept book, a comic book adaptation of its sequel (The Dark Knight), along with the movie's exclusive footage.

But that's not enough Batman yet as another movie, Batman: Gotham Knight, is also included in this batch. It will feature six animated movies that are based on Batman Mythos. If you're a true-blue Batman fanatic, you shouldn't let this once in a lifetime chance pass you up so go get your own copy of this Japanese anime style Batman feautre.

Enough about Batman, here's to the fans of psychological horror films. The Ruins is about a group of friends who discovers the ruins of an ancient Mayan temple. This isn't the gory type of horror films that you expect but most of the scare comes from the tension that each character experiences as they are faced with an angry Mayan mob.

Meanwhile, if you want a different type of horror, you might love the double feature on mini-series 10.5 Apocalypse and Category 7: End of the World which will definitely keep you glued on your seat.

10.5 Apocalypse tells the story following an earthquake that struck Los Angeles, causing the continent to split. However, characters in the film are faced with more than just the destructive powers of earthquake but must also deal with other equally fierce forces like volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.

Indeed, such a violent congregation of natural calamities threatening to destroy the face of earth. And so it is with Category 7: The End of the World, which stars Gina Gershon as Judith Carr. However, with this film the focus is on an intense storm that hits Chicago and various other places around the globe. More than just focusing on the disaster itself, the film takes on a whole another proportion with some religious twist added to it.

Enough about horror and scary calamities, how about taking it slow and immerse yourself in the drama of Sleepwalking, which is about the life of Nick Stahl. Stahl is forced to foster his niece after being abandoned by its mother. By being the girl's guardian, he becomes attached to the young girl and struggles to make a decision about leaving the girl to a foster home or dealing with the past of his family.

If you've had enough of the whirlwind of emotions wrought out by all those films above, you can definitely relax and wind back with two of the musical performances included in this week's Blu-ray batch. There is Earth Wind & Fire performing their jazz-rock music to the people in Chicago in Live at the Greek Theatre.

But if you're looking for a different type of music, check out the Blu-ray compilation of several performances, Lovely To See You, Live. This includes 20 songs recorded at the Greek Theatre.

That's all for now at this week's batch of Blu-ray releases, do watch out next week for more hit releases! Enjoy!
