PS3 - UbiSoft Reports Good Q1 Sales, Confirms Splinter Cell: Conviction Delay
After the first quarter of 2008, Ubisoft's sales have been quite an achievement. Following multiplatform releases like Assassin's Creed (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), and Rayman Raving Rabbids, the said publisher saw a 26% increase in total sales, amounting to 169M Euros or US 265M.
One contributor to Ubisoft's success is the fact that they've made sure their games are made available to everyone. The Games for Everyone brand that includes Petz, Imagine, My Coach, and My Weight Loss Coach, have all been quite promising.
Meanwhile, gamers can expect the following games to hit the market for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2008-2009:
*Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360)
*Soul Calibur 4 (European release, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
*More casual games for the Nintendo platforms Wii and DS
As for Splinter Cell: Conviction, it was confirmed to be delayed until the fiscal 2009-2010. This is going to be a much longer wait, considering it was initially scheduled for release on the fourth quarter of 2008-2009.
Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot explains the reason for the delay, saying: “Splinter Cell is a very important franchise for Ubisoft and we have high anticipation for this game.” He further adds, “It is a major product and...[t]here are lots of opportunities that we want to take and so that is why we can give [them] a little bit more time to make sure it can become a huge product.”
Well, for the series' fans, as long as a delay would promise a better gameplay experience, we're pretty sure you wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer. More updates as we have them!
