PS3 - UK Launch Numbers Break Record

The tally is in and looking good for Sony. The UK launch of the PlayStation 3 has set a new record for consoles sold in an opening weekend. According to Chart Track a total of 165,000 out of the 220,000 units available are now in homes.

If you look at all consoles, including handhelds, Sony now holds the number 2 spot as well. The PlayStation Portable launch sold 185,000 units during its launch back in 2005.

These numbers beat out the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft´s XBox 360 with 105,000 and 70,000 units, respectively.
