Back in November 2006 when the delay was announced for the UK/ European launch some wondered if this would affect sales of the system when it did finally launch in March 2007. According to Brand Republic, there definitely was some backlash.
Going by their numbers about 20,000 preorders were cancelled when the delay news came about. At 425 pounds apiece that comes to a total of GBP 8.5 million in sales lost.
Still, it doesn´t sound like Sony lost much sleep over it- despite this they broke launch records with 165,000 units sold. Also, factor in the 125 Bravia 46¨ HDTVs given away over at Virgin Megastore´s Oxford Street location, costing about GBP 250,000 altogether.
Sony hasn´t released any official word regarding the cancellation numbers so it´s hard to say how accurate Brand Republic´s numbers may be. More info as it comes.
