PS3 - Unreal Tournament PC versus PS3 Gamers Online
Words have spread about the possibility of PS3-PC online multiplayer when the 3rd installment of Unreal Tournament comes out. This speculation was further fueled by the addition of mouse and keyboard support to the title's Playstation 3 version.
Although this might be an interesting idea, representatives from Epic Games have denied the reports. In a recent interview with Beyond Unreal, Epic VP Mark Rein has this to say:
“The biggest challenge in doing cross platform play is synchronizing the builds such that the build on the PC is 100 compatible with the build on the PS3.” He also adds that before releasing any new game on the console, it has to go through a lengthy certification process.
The manufacturers at Epic Games have determined that it is difficult to respond quickly when it comes to the PC users, since they would have to hold on to updates until they pass certification on the console platform.
But there remains to be a ray of light on the matter. Even Mark Rein said that the cross-platform play may still be added once the new title has been established.
