PS3 - US Trade Commission To Investigate Blu-Ray Patent
Now that the high def movie format war is over with Blu-Ray declared the winner, one would think everything would be smooth sailing from here. Afraid that isn't the case, however, as a claim has been made saying the Blu-ray infringes on patents.
Gertrude Neumark Rothschild, formerly a professor at Columbia University, has filed a claim with the International Trade Commission stating several patents she owns regarding certain light-emitting and laser diodes were infringed upon with the Blu-Ray design.
The committee has voted to investigate the claim but has yet to determine if there is any merit to it. Over 30 companies were named including Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and Nokia.
