PS3 - USA PlayStation 3 Prices Slashed, Euro Gamers Angry
Recent discounting and special packs for the PS3 in the USA have angered European gamers as they now have to pay almost DOUBLE the price of their American gaming neighbors for a PlayStation 3 console.
Amazon provide a great example, charging 499 (US Dollars) for a 60GB PS3 in America, while charging the equivalent of over 810 to their European customers for the same equipment.
Sony would cite that they provide value packs in Europe that include games and other extras, however most large American electrical specialist stores are also offering this type of deal and are starting to heavily discount them.
On a recent Wal-Mart anniversary flyer, they slashed the price of one of these PS3 value packs by 110 (US) and along with a cheaper price tag, the console also comes with the hit game MotorStorm, plus a Blu-Ray remote control. At the time of researching this story, they were selling this for only 549.83 (US).
Games are also priced at 100 (US) in Europe and 60 (US) in the USA. Although when you look at the online discounts available, the margin is much closer. We checked the best prices for the new PS3 game Heavenly Sword and found it for as cheap as 53 in America and 67 in the UK, but that still makes them 25% more expensive.
Bearing in mind that the European market has always been just as big (or bigger) than the the American market for previous versions of the PlayStation, many European gamers feel that their concerns about unfair pricing are not being taken seriously by Sony.
You only have to visit some of the large online PlayStation community websites to see that these gamers have had almost had enough of this situation, and the question is, how much longer will it be before their loyalty switches to another console manufacturer ?

Now why am I not surprised by this? We always get p****d on by Sony. The thing is, their p*** is like petrol that just fans the flames we already have due to being so p****d off with Sony.
So come on our American friends, let's hear a good explanation that puts all these negatives in a positice light.
Personally, I don't know how I stick with Sony, but I do. There are a LOT of Europeans that won't though.
Sony owe us an explanation. We better have a HUGE price drop at christmas else I think Sony will seriously get the backlash from us Europeans that they rightfully deserve.

They are lucky they have such a loyal fanbase like us, that really appreciate the consoles they build, and are more than happy to pay a right load of money for them, but the way i see it, if there reducing prices in another country that needs to be introduced to every other country aswell...!!!
Thing is though Rob, you've got to remember that the console itself was always cheaper in the US to begin with because of our VAT we have in this country.
So they're consoles are 17.5% less than what we have to pay and now it's even cheaper. They're probably saving a good 25%-30% on the price we pay.
Places like Amazon are selling the console by itself for £399.99 instead of £425 but that's their choice isn't it? It's not an official price drop from Sony is it?
