PS3 - Year End 2 Million Mark Not Possible?
According to a report on Bloomberg Sony´s projection of having 2 million PS3 units available by the end of 2006 (with 1 to 1.2 million of these reaching North America) may not be possible now. According to Sony there is a parts shortage for the Blu-Ray disc drive causing them to fall behind.
Sony exec John Tretton said ¨The honest answer is it´s more of a target ... clearly we´ve had production issues.¨
Between this, the recent laptop battery recall and the price cut on the 20 GB PS3 in Japan Sony has been taking a number of hits financially. While this parts shortage shouldn´t affect preorders those that were hoping to snag one after launch may have a bit harder time finding it than originally planned.
