PSP - Firmware 3.90 Available Now

The new firmware for the PlayStation portable is now available via the network Update feature, bringing the system up to version 3.90.

The changelog for the update when installing lists the following:

* Support for PlayStation network titles has been expanded.

*Skype has been added as a feature under Network. Compatible models: PSP-2001, PSP-2002, PSP-2003, PSP-2004, PSP-2005, PSP-2006, PSP-2007, PSP-2008, PSP-2010.

With Skype, gamers would be able to make free VoIP (voice over internet protocol) telephone calls to other Skype users once they set up their free account with Skype. The software can also be used to call regular landline phones but credits have to be purchased from Skype to do this. Then, one would be able to use the upcoming PSP headset to make phone calls all over the world.

Unfortunately, owners of the original PSP are left out here as Skype does not work with the original PSP. Still, it is worth downloading if only to keep up to date and be ready for future releases from the PlayStation Store.
