PSP - GPS Attachment Coming By 2009 To North America, GPS-Based Games To Follow
John Koller, Sony PSP's Senior Marketing Manager, has just announced that a GPS attachment for the Sony's handheld console will be due for North America next year. This seems to be similar to the one announced in the CES event this year, just shortly after the announcement of Skype for the PSP.
Although some might think that it's still a long wait before that could actually materialize, Koller adds more details that would make you consider the wait as time for anticipation. He said that they are also looking to use the PSP's GPS functionality for the games.
Sony is trying to get publishers to create titles that would implement the said technology. Koller details, “It changes the dynamics of GPS but also changes the way developers think about games on PSP because you can start integrating GPS into it.”
If you could remember, Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops utilized PSP's GPS receiver so that players can add or recruit some more personnel. While this new feature provides more depth into the game, this also creates more venue for interactivity and a deeper exploration of the game.
There was no specific dates as for the arrival of the GPS attachment for the PSP in North America, so check us again for any updates!
